From an amateur science view point, what is the acceptable tolerance for weighing out solids to be made up to a solution.?
1 want to make up 0.5M Sodium Chloride in 100ml solution, so I need 2.92g. Attempting to weigh this seems to make my scales either hit 2.92 or go 0.1g either way e.g 2.91 or 2.93. I think for Amateur science this is acceptable.
It does seem that I can have the exact amount, as soon as I transfer it to different vessel e.g beaker to beaker or beacker to flask, some is lost anyway. 0.1 of NaCl is such a tiny amount.
Proper lab scales go to 3 or 4 decimal places, my scales go to two decimal places.
Am I trying to be too precise trying to get to exactly 2.92g?
