Not So Tiny #Privacy Tip about Data Deletion 🔒✨:

There is rarely any guarantee your data will be fully deleted when handled by third parties.

However, there are often different ways your data can be accessed and seen. Limiting the reach of this is almost always an improvement for your security and privacy:

1. Deleting some of your publicly visible data can help reducing damage from future web scraping and reduce the risk of social media phishing attacks 👁

2. Deleting or making unique the data visible from inside your account can help reduce the damage to you and others in case of an account takeover 🗑

3. Reaching out to organization with data deletion requests when possible can add another layer of protection in case the organization is breached :nes_fire:

There is never complete guarantee. But there are almost always ways to improve your privacy and reduce your digital traces.

Giving up entirely, however, is not one of them.

Doing a search on yourself can reveal publically available information, e.g profiles etc that you can prevent by logging in and changing privacy settings.

We can do that on fedi too, control who can see posts etc.

But use google as others will use that, and they are the bigger data collector, but also use your regular search tools.
