Or people can join the fediverse for free or run their own instance for a lot less than $14 a month.

In fact even donating < $14 a month would help instances out

@TechNews

That was my thought as well. Think about 10% of users donating 10$ per month to their/an instance.

@dexternemrod @zleap @TechNews sure, but in general, i'm much happier with services that charge to remove advertising. Then it's much clearer what you're paying for, and should remove tension / need for tracking etc.. Sadly I suspect the latter won't happen. #Meta #Instagram #facebook

That's your point of view, which is a valid opinion as well.

@dexternemrod @zleap @TechNews thank you - yes wasn't trying to say i was more correct than anyone else.

Important thing here is we can discuss and try and find ideas that would work.

I think if we were able to contribute to services such on fediverse we could help keep services running or just cover some of the cost. .

@zleap @dexternemrod @TechNews i agree - actually i re-read my message and it was ambiguous.

What I meant was that I don't mind services that charge for a specific thing like removing advertising. But I wasn't saying that's my preference - reads like that but it isn't, apologies. Contributing to Fediverse server costs is also a v good model. Hope it's sustainable.

Either way, interoperability between many people is what I want to see - walled communities, free or not, don't help anyone.
