pedometers are stupid what we need are petometers, measuring the exact number of strokes we give pets per day to indicate maximum health levels

however in US English they spell the English word Paedophile as Pedophile ( US English) so maybe, if we took things too literally in US English the word Pedometer is used to count the number of Pedophiles that walk past.
I appreciate the Americans see England as the 'land of extra vowels', but much of English comes from French, so the addition or removal of the vowel 'a' in this context really does change the meaning.
I do agree with some US spellings, e.g Sulfur instead of Sulphur for example, the former is now accepted,
