Continuous live updates from the BBC
The judge is now granted a 15-minute break. Hoping cooler heads will prevail.
I'm telling you, if you or I had done any of this we would all be in jail. This is the problem with our justice system. The rich and political can act like a fool in court.
A late friend of mine would have said there are rules and then there are rules and clearly hear that case applies.
Judge Arthur Engoron has appeared more restrained in his criticisms of Trump. He has stayed silent for most of Trump's testimony.
The former president has continued to provide lengthy answers.
At one point, the judge shook his head at one of Trump's answers about Mar-a-Lago.
He just chimed in for the first time in a while to say "irrelevant, irrelevant, answer the question", when Trump was talking about Trump International Golf Club in Scotland.
Trump had said it was "an unbelievable site".
I dislike Trump's court case.
Not because I support Donald Trump or because I dislike Donald Trump, either. My feelings about Donald Trump on a whole is irrelevant to why I dislike Donald Trump's court case.
I dislike this court case because Donald Trump, like many wealthy or political individuals, is being given special treatment. Period.
You or I would be in jail if we yelled at a judge in their own courtroom, or refused to answer questions or attempt to give self persona speeches. 🙄
"Judge Engoron is attempting to redirect the court again as Trump continues to go on about his golf course in Scotland.
“Do you want to let the witness ramble on, be unresponsive?” Engoron asks Kevin Wallace of the attorney general's team.
Trump's attorney Chris Kise chimes in to say he thinks Trump's response is a "brilliant answer".
This prompts a chuckle from Wallace. "

It seems the judge has basically yielded at this point to Donald Trump's nonsense.
That's insane.
Anyone else would be held in contempt of court. But nope, instead Donald Trump is holding the court in contempt and everyone is just going alone with this nonsense! 🙄
8 seconds of video sums up my thoughts nicely concerning how the court seems to be allowing Donald Trump to say or do whatever he wants.
Court artist Jane Rosenberg has just published this sketch of Donald Trump on the stand.
It shows the former president being questioned by Kevin Wallace of the New York Attorney General's office.
-- I love how they almost make him look like the demon with his eyebrows. They look horn like when drawn.
" Trump has just spent the past five minutes airing his frustrations about the New York fraud trial while on the stand.
He points his finger at New York Attorney General Letitia James as he yells that the "political hack back there" is carrying out the probe to hurt him.
At the end of the rant, Kevin Wallace of the attorney general's team asks him, "You done?"
"Done," Trump says, prompting some laughter from the courtroom. "

" Kayla Epstein - Reporting from court
From watching this drama play out for two and a half hours, it seems like Judge Engoron knows Trump is making campaign speeches from the bench.
Trump has both a political and financial incentive to attack the judge: He's able to fundraise millions of dollars off of these court appearances. He can spin these outbursts, which will be reported verbatim by the dozens of press assembled, into fodder for campaign emails and Truth Social posts. "

" So it's notable that Judge Engoron doesn't engage when Trump attacks him directly.
Rather, he holds his reprimands for when Trump rambles on, or doesn't answer the questions from Kevin Wallace of the attorney general's office.
Perhaps he doesn't want to give Trump the sort of fight he's clearly itching for, or provide any opening for Trump's lawyers to allege bias if (but really, when) they appeal the case. "

I don't doubt that assessment, but it is also a problem, and it is a problem because when they appeal this, as we all expect them to do so, Donald Trump will be allowed to move about the country freely without a care in the world.
The same as most wealthy and political individuals who break the law.
And ultimately, whether he is successful in his appeal or not, he will still not have spent any time in jail. It is the same status quo that has played out repeatedly for the wealthy and political
Honestly, when someone like Donald Trump faces "justice" it is nothing but political theater.
We have the illusion of people like Donald Trump facing consequences for their actions. But that is all it is, an illusion.
At the end of the day, Donald Trump will likely be ordered to pay a fine -- The cost of doing business when you're wealthy or political.
Even if the judge surprised everyone by giving a jail sentence, Donald Trump would likely be let on bail to walk freely throughout his appeal.
And upon his appeal, whatever sentence would likely be reduced to a fine.
The end game is a fine. That's all. -- The cost of doing business, while breaking the law, if you are wealthy and political in America.
You do understand that a jail sentence is not even a possibility in this CIVIL case?
This case has only one purpose, to determine the EXTENT of civil liability for the Trump Organization. In other words, how much will they owe the State of New York in penalties, and whether the business will be dissolved.
Given how Trump is behaving, could the judge still jail him for contempt of court.; ?
@zleap @wryanfisher
Yes, you can be held in contempt of court and Trump should have been.
But as previously noted, because he is a wealthy and political individual, and this being America -- The normal rules don't seem to apply.
