@LALegault So it was all about money...
That wasn’t obvious?
@LALegault Musk doesn't always do things for money.
Fair. His Spaces with guests are almost exclusively used that way. He did it for Andrew Tate when he needed legal defence money too.
Money as I don't think musk cares about science
Well that seems a far more positive view on this, As long as Musk does not try and run a colony like he runs X
@zleap @LALegault There is a series of books he likes the government style from. I'm not so sure it will work. Who knows.
@zleap @LALegault Musk cares about science. He also cares about Earth and humanity. Tesla is to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy. One of the biggest users of energy is personal transportation. Hence making cars first. Use the profits from the early ones to pay for the R&D to make them lower cost, and make the factories that can make them in larger volumes.
@Eka_FOOF_A @zleap Sorry there is only Musk ridicule allowed in my replies :)
@LALegault @zleap LOL
I'm the jackass that told him putting a greenhouse on Mars wouldn't spur enough long term interest in society* to get space colonization going. So if he wanted it to happen in his lifetime, he was going to have to do it himself. We then talked about how to do it, what it would cost, and how to pay for it.
* Look at how fast society lost interest in the moon landings. Apollo 11 everybody watched. Apollo 13 didn't make the news until "Houston, we have a problem."
@LALegault @zleap ** At the time I was making prototypes for and designing a gause gun to shoot cameras into outer space that would transmit images of Earth back to Earth as they escaped Earth's gravity. I was hoping to kindle more interest in ecology and climate change. My prototype showed we only needed to make it larger, and change the heat shield on the shell.
Elon Musk hates women on level that frightens me.
@LALegault @zleap He reminds me of all too many trans women before transition who were desperately trying to appear masculine and rejecting their feminine traits.
He reminds me of every abusive white South African who treats women like property
@Eka_FOOF_A @zleap So his father, more or less.
@LALegault @zleap From reports I've heard, Elon is much better than his father. Still a long ways to go...
I met and talked with him back in 2002 while SpaceX was being formed. He seamed nice then, but it was under a 30 minute conversation.
I have enjoyed our interactions. However, I can’t entertain this. He is a terrible man, he speaks terribly about women as only baby machines, he promotes sex traffickers, he psychologically abused 2 of his exes, now he in bed with a Sandy hook conspiracy denier, his labour practices are abhorrent and I find his mere existence irks me on a cellular level.
Admiration for him after all that makes me question a person’s moral compass.
A friend of mine in LA said “he is the kind of man you don’t invite to your house.”
@LALegault @zleap Not surprising. Those are the role models he had in his youth. Sadly being the boss, he isn't likely to see other role models in action.
He just had to recall every Tesla he ever sold, and yesterday he lost his starlink government subsidies, so I am wondering how long he will be the boss?
@LALegault @zleap Doubt it will change anything. It's only a software change, so over the air update. All Teslas get them at least monthly.
Teslas already have a greater than 80% reduction in the number of accidents when Autopilot is used. Sadly this forced change will make accidents more likely to happen because it reduces when Autopilot can be used.
@zleap @LALegault Wind, too many players already so not done. Solar roof tiles so solar roofs look good. Resells regular solar panels made by others. Too much of a commodity market to get involved in. Powerwall home battery systems, a natural extension of auto battery packs. Megapacks for industrial and grid scale use. Megapacks when used to replace peaker power plants reduce CO2 emissions by a huge amount.
@zleap @LALegault Nope. He wants humanity's eggs in multiple baskets in case one of them gets destroyed for some reason. The others can then rebuild the destroyed one. With no backups, civilization could be destroyed by a large meteor. Heck, even climate change could destroy it. This has been the plan for over 20 years now. It won't finish in his lifetime. Many others are also in on the project.
