what's making it different? because they've said it with their chest? this can't be how we're holding tech accountable if we have to wait for them to say it; their actions are demonstrably louder

It shows big tech is not capable of policing itself, so hence government demand the need for regulation. Meanwhile, smaller tech such as the fediverse is proving we CAN police ourselves, we can here, we can on IRC, some forums etc and, of course, other decentralised platforms.

However, smaller tech can also admit we are not perfect, don't always get it right, admit mistakes and strive to improve.
