I’m part of the #TwitterMigration, first joining Mastodon-dot-Social and ending up here! Bummer posts don’t migrate, so I’ll do another #Introduction
I’m Sarah (they/them), a #biology PhD candidate at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA)! I work with @thecowbirdlab, studying the development of baby #birds, mostly the hormones in eggs that influence their growth!
I’m a #queer #trans person, a #birder #birdnerd who loves #nature #photography (mostly birds though) and #SciComm !
@skwinnicki thanks for sharing! I'm only a casual bird watcher, but I'm always excited to see a new bird and to see how the local populations change over the seasons @queerornithology
@2ck @queerornithology that is awesome!! Aren’t birds lovely? I love my own trajectory, from “wow birds are great, I want to see them!” to “hmm I’m noticing patterns here, birds in different seasons, birds doing consistent behaviors!” to “wait a minute, why do these patterns happen?” to “oh shoot no one knows the answer, guess I have to find out myself! Now to get funding to research this!”
Birds were my gateway into an evolutionary ecology research career, but I’m so happy with every step!
