This reminds me of the kind of songs I make up in the shower 😆
Had never heard this term "retiring risk" before #NASA admin Bridenstine used it. Such interesting #jargon in #aerospace. https://herdingcats.typepad.com/my_weblog/2005/08/risk_retirement.html
@GustavinoBevilacqua @Jonathan thanks for the link. this genus apparently made for some fascinating evolution studies https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendrosenecio

my most unpopular (yet pretty basic) opinion: things that people blame capitalism for in the current era are facets of humankind that in fact vastly pre-date the rise of capitalism in society, an will require a far greater re-engineering effort, whose shape is possibly hidden from sight by strictly anti-capitalist stances
Let's get that live thing !!! 🚀 💪

I've commissioned the great @davidrevoy to help with some of the artwork for the new Spritely website. I made some tiny sketches of what I thought sprites might look like: https://dustycloud.org/gfx/goodies/spritely-sprite-designs.png
David did a conceptual re-imagining and oh my god they're AMAZING https://www.davidrevoy.com/XYZ/Spritely/2020-09-09_Quick-paint-over-first-sketches.jpg
@vaughan @wistahe this isn't the kind of thing you can close the book on. it's about power, money, and agency. appropriators take some aspect of a marginalized community's culture and profit from it. maybe the value flows back to the community: if it does, that's generally good. if it doesn't, people complain.
another aspect is that the mainstream can misrepresent the depth or context of some aspect of culture - I wouldn't just call that 'disrespect' since 'disrespect' sounds to me like it's active and intentional, but it can easily be done through inaction and be accidental. one unfortunate effect of that is the misrepresentation gets reflected back at the marginalized and can contribute to erasure of their culture over generations.
it keeps being an issue because it keeps happening. ¯\_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯
@wistahe this topic in general is pretty easy to read about. is there some "debate" around some cultural aspect or artifact in particular that confuses you?
@ljwrites I have to believe advertisers (political or otherwise) are using automated text generation to come up with nonsense like this. a real person doing it is just too sad
@coldwave that's a bizarre description of Infinite Jest. i assume the "alcoholic" is James Incandenza, but it's not "about" that character. It's hard to give it a concise description.
Collaboratively inventing the word "synecdomeme" for the practice of using a filename, or notional filename, to stand for a multimedia item. E.g., "homer simpson retreats into shrubbery.gif" or "dumpster fire.mp4".
we need solarpunk renders and videogames based on neo-andean architecture🌞

Thinking about the “Neo-Andean” architecture that flourished in Bolivia under Evo Morales. These are all by architect Freddy Mamani
