I’m 99% sure you guys made up Hive just to make me feel old

Many government agencies are expressing concerns about how to communicate with the public without Twitter, especially in emergencies. Of course, it was a bad idea to become dependent on Twitter to such an extent in the first place, and no matter what happens, this needs rethinking.

I’ve been practicing No vember, where for the whole month I simply don’t

I wasn't really sure what my first post should be here on Mastodon but as a way of introduction I thought I would post my latest photographic series - postcard size cyanotype prints of Jackdaws.
I have been a photographer for about 20 years & am inspired by my family & home life - my work is very personal & I enjoy working with many different photographic processes and mediums.
I shall look forward to being a part of the community & seeing & sharing work.

Another GIF from last year, written in (Java) Processing. Continuing to post from the archives while I'm in the process of learning some new stuff.

How can a music notation data format encode the music of a concert-pitch score along with individual transposed-instrument parts, without duplicating information? What's the right level of abstraction?

If that question makes any sense to you, check out my proposal and the current discussion in this GitHub issue:

There’s snow in Oslo. I looked out from the window at work and saw this🧐 I’m impressed. How much effort did that take?!

Hi, I'm Sergi, a network scientist at the Institute for Evolutionary Biology (IBE).

In school, I studied computer science and physics, but I've always been fascinated by evolutionary theory and its applications outside of biology.

Many important questions require a deep understanding of evolution, e.g, how does complexity evolve in natural and artificial systems?

I work in complex networks, theoretical ecology, and cultural evolution.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Associate Professorship post at Oxford Materials
(->permanent academic position)

Looking for somebody working on materials for zero-carbon energy systems (energy conversion or storage, eg hydrogen power, fuel-cells etc).

Very happy to talk informally to folk about this post - I am not on the selection panel so can talk freely & nothing will feed through to panel.

@RustyBertrand @PippiLongstocking ah this one is going around again. It’s a lovely little sculpture but not ancient — created in 2011 ❤️ alt text: sculpture of bothersome cat standing on chest of sleeping human figure
