the creators of Avatar: Legend of Korra, probably

In its current implementation, #Mastodon (and the #Fediverse in general, though maybe not #Hubzilla?) scales quite poorly as the number N of instances grows:

- connections accross servers grow as N^2
- a post must be sent ~N times for popular accounts
- federated data is cached on all servers that received it

Are there current issues/PRs about these problems, what leads are considered to tackle them?

I only found two issues about data duplication/the use of IPFS (see below)

politics

blog.washcoll.edu/wordpress/th
for a while I haven't understood the criticism leveled against "wokeness". I always understood "being woke" as being aware of the effects of social and political action on one's own life and the community. I also understand it as being a product of black political culture, so I always read the reaction against it as being essentially racist fear of black political power
the linked article explains a bit more the (typically unexamined) distaste for "wokeness" as essentially performative which I've heard from more liberal folks, but I'm still scratching my head about how it's put in opposition to, say, QAnon, like these things have anything to do with one another or exist on a spectrum.

I kinda hate the chess.com way of telling you in computer games that your last move was a blunder. It makes me feel bad and I just stop playing. I'm fine to look after the game is over and see where the game turned against me, but I'd rather the outcome of the game tells me I didn't do well

I keep seeing people say Mastodon is nothing like Twitter. And they’re right.

Mastodon is an echo of the old internet, it’s decentralised, chaotic. What you get depends on your sysadmin. You can’t search, everything has to be shared to you by a human. Networks split apart and rejoin. What you see is your unique connection to it.

Is this good? Maybe. But for me that’s the internet I grew up with. No algorithms, no targeted adverts, just human interaction, and it was glorious.

blankets should just be squares. i'm sleepy, cold, and in the dark, but you want me to find the long side of this blanket to wrap around myself when I'm sitting up in bed to post nonsense on the internet? it's too much

#introduction I guess!

I'm an astronomer working vaguely in planetary science and exoplanets: these days I'm mostly a baby astro software dev, so I write a ton of Python code and cry at my list of GitHub issues.

I'm non-binary and bisexual: I previously identified as asexual, probably still grey-A, I don't think about it a lot. I have ADHD, I have enough to think about.

In my spare time I play video games, write bad novels, consume k-pop content and cross-stitch.

I like new friends! ❤️

food. nonsense

potatoes, salt, oil, and heat... tastes better'n it has right to. you don't think you can eat three potatoes, then you cover em in olive oil, season em right, and bake em and then you can

I just *do not* understand how modes relate to actually playing music. I'm reading this liveukulele.com/lessons/theory and it talks about how you "end" or "start" on this or that note and that makes it in one mode or another...? I start on whatever note I start on and I don't just play notes in a given order. It really feels like there's some fundamental disconnect between how I think of playing and how music theorists want to describe it

I tried to take a photo of a grasshopper on my windshield, but now it looks like it's gigantic and destroying the town.

Has anyone here contemplated using Roblox for work?

I manage remote software development teams who have never met face to face and I find that bringing people out of their shells is difficult, and activities like icebreakers can be invaluable for this.

Roblox games are very varied and the platform seems very flexible. And it got me thinking that maybe these icebreaker activities can be gamified. Imagine a Roblox game being used to estimate stories for a sprint for instance.

Anyway, does anyone know of anyone who has done this? I'd love to know how they found it.

I won't learn how to use Mastodon if I don't practice, and I've had a recent career change, so an #introduction seems appropriate!

I am Megan Tannock, and I am a professional #astronomer. I am a former academic turned video game programmer, currently working on the game #SpaceEngine. My role involves implementing new #physics and #chemistry in the game, and acting as an #astronomy consultant for the team!

I am Canadian and I love #dogs, #rockclimbing, #hiking, and all things #science.

There's a thing T'Nia Miller does with her lips in the scene in just before she lets those bees loose to kill that woman...I gagged. top villain moment right there.

I hope I can get to a level of mastery with that I can play things by ear the same way I can whistle songs I've heard. Actually reading is such an effort for me.
