I find it both interesting and sad that many of the celebrity/journalist accounts joining mastodon are following no one.

That means they aren't joining in, don't have a relevant or interesting timeline, and most importantly, don't understand the difference between being fed *curated* information by a corporation and seeking out information for themselves.

We're building a community, not another celebrity worship-fest or automatic political circle jerk machine.

@jasonpedlow my one fear, however, is that if all you do is look at those who you follow, you end up in your own echo chamber.

The key to progress is hearing not just this you agree with, but those you don't.

My point? Make it a habit to follow people who don't necessarily agree with you. You likely will not change your mind, but you may better understand their perspective.

Mash that follow button and if you find you don't like what you get, use filters, mute or unfollow. All of those options exist. I think it's an adjustment for all of those of us new to Mastodon.
