So sad to read, and very similar to what we see with some of our kids' former classmates. I'm glad people are commenting that it wasn't always like this, because a lot of people seem to think it was.

We still keep in touch with one family, in particular, who started out COVID cautious along side us, and up until last school year we collaborated on virtual and home school with them. Their sons wanted to go back, and they eventually gave in, and now the only things we hear from them are about being constantly sick. But every time we bring up how it didn't used to be like this, they immediately say it was, and how everyone at school remembers it always being like that. It feels like everyone who's in brick and mortar school now are telling each other that it was always like this, and so they are all believing it. To make it worse, the dad works in healthcare and has become convinced, after being a dedicated novid, that this is all normal. Breaks my heart, honestly.

Every time I think about it I feel extremely grateful that, one, we're able to keep our kids out of that environment, and, two, they both really, honestly, want to be doing what we're doing. Every few days one of them will spontaneously mention that they're so glad and how they wish we'd have learned about virtual school earlier in their lives.
