They told us this back in Junior High school, long before the web existed (for me): your Library Research Skills are the gateway to knowledge. Knowing things is often not nearly as important as knowing how to find out.
@Biggles I’d say knowing things is *never* as important as knowing how to learn things. The former is static/bounded and the latter limitless.

This is just generalist versus specialist - and the answer is that both are useful in different ways.
