Why do publishers think optimistic (non-doomer) #ClimateFiction is only for kids? I've literally been told this to my face (by everyone from writers to publishers to booksellers). I just read an interview with an author who wanted to write optimistic cli-fi for adults but could only get it published as a middle-grade novel.

Put another way: why is it SAFE to tell kids that they should work together to fight the #ClimateCrisis but NOT adults?

Huh. I wonder what the difference could be?

I am a lifelong sci-fi fan.

It is very hard to find non-dystopian science fiction to read!

I'll be honest, I read sci-fi for the escape, to get a break from reality.

I'm already doing a number of significant things to ameliorate my climate footprint. I can't *practically* do more.

I don't want my climate anxiety funny bone tweaked.

@beforewisdom Most folks are in pretty big denial about the changes they can make — I'm still finding things I can do, and I already do A LOT — but if you have a climate anxiety funny bone you don't want tweaked, then you def don't want to read most of the cli-fi out there — cuz it's all doomerism. Which is my point. We don't have a lot of stories about how to build a greener more equitable sustainable society. That's what #solarpunk is for (and #hopepunk).

So please tell publishers that adult readers like me will read books in this genre.

It would be nice to have a "non-dystopian sci-fi certification" so when I read to try to fall asleep I will not stumble across disturbing doom!
