For those of us who came from Twitter: here, clicking "favorite" is different from clicking "like" in Twitter. It just tells the writer "yeah, nice", without enhancing visibility. The only way to enhance visibility is to "boost" (basically, retweet). I suspect all this will change (different clients will have different algorithms, etc) but for now this is how it is...

@MatteoCarandini I don't think it will change. This is how Twitter and Facebook used to work in the early days after all. Both having a boosting function would be redundant.

@giorgiogilestro hmm sounds like you have provided two data points in favor of the opposite hypothesis?

@MatteoCarandini If you think Well, I did but only if one thinks that Mastodon will inevitably follow the other socials' steps and evolve in the same direction. I think it will follow a different path.

@giorgiogilestro @MatteoCarandini Another point to consider is that the underlying (design)philosophy of Mastodon is different. "Increasing visibility" does not appear to be a core aim. Twitter et al. need it as a central part of their business model, as it is the best way to draw people in. Mastodon isn't a business and doesn't have that need.
