Google search is losing the fight with SEO spam, study says arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/0

This is most concerning in an era where we will ask search engines to vet GAI output.

Did you know there was an anti-choice rally in DC on Friday?

"According to Mancini, 60% of women who chose abortion would have chosen life **if they had more support.** Mancini told the crowd that these moms need to know they can do this, and we will help them."

Mancini talks about support the same way as any CPC.

There’s no place for vigilantes in a rule of law country. We need to stamp this crap out ASAP.

“Shoaff said he didn’t know at the time that McEachin was Black, but he still stands by his statement. “I said we should take him out in the middle of the street and hang him,” said Shoaff. “I said what I said because he advocated for using force against citizens,” he said. “Is that not treason?”

OK guys, anyone who wants to build an early #FujiNet for #TRS80 #CoCo testing unit, we have a board! The hardware repo will be pulled into the main fujinet proper soon, but Chris Tersteeg has taken our working schematics and done a board.

The lesson to take away from this muff is this: even if you try to do basic arithmetic this close to your local midnight hour, your brain will betray you because it has already turned into a pumpkin. G'night!

...and now y'all can muddle over whether x/1 = x is legit, huh. From what I just said, the mistake I made was saying x/x when I should have said x/1, so yeah, I'm just now catching that...and Mastodon software does not allow a person to edit a post. @Mary625 , that's the problem you ran into in your thread about ads.

You're forced to delete then repost so all your replies get lost when you attempt to make a correction...or you're forced to let the error stand and you're forced to take all the @s at you.

CORRECTION: x/1 = x/0

europesays.com/1011383/ CNN report from Avdiivka: Ukrainian defenders trying to hold on in the face of massive (and very costly) Russian assaults. #Ukraine

This is an absurdly one-sided article. The article says basically “Microsoft is doing this and it’s probably good.” It doesn’t even ask what #Microsoft gets from doing this? They’re probably training their #AI. Using unpaid volunteer labour to help classify things. It isn’t a one way exchange. MS gets something. A tax write-off? Training labour? I don’t know what, but this article doesn’t even speculate much less investigate.

I just followed Hacker News down a rabbit hole which started out as "Most Earth system models are missing element..." then found a link on that page attempting to explain why "Dividing by Zero is a Bad Idea"...and it proceeds to examine various mathematical proofs to prove why not, except one.

Mathematics has always been and will always be, a language that describes relationships and how those relatioships change values with respect to any change in any single one of those elements. That's why some people like word math problems better than abstract problems, and vice versa.

Me, I like both. So permit me to translate into English what math symbols say about the relationship to a numerator that a zero denominator has:

The numerator is divided by nothing so therefore the numerator isn't divided, therefore the numerator remains itself.

x/x = x/0

...because x isn't divided when divided by zero.

I have been applying for work, but this doesn't feel productive. I'm picking up a gig job to supplement my savings until I land full time work, which should also help my mental health a bit, but has a number of pitfalls, and the structure is dubious.

I'm not taking BS "protestant work ethic" drive. Humans want to do stuff that we can see benefits our community.
