Kind of a niche question for my #histodons friends: I’m talking about Abraham ben Yiju (12C Jewish merchant known from the Cairo Geniza) in class tomorrow, and I’m wondering how he would probably have been known in his own time. Would he have been Avraham as in modern Hebrew? Or Ibrahim as in Arabic?
@tkinias I would lean towards Ibrahim because of the higher social status of the Arabic language at that time but I am hardly a scholar in this area.

I kind of suspect that if he was speaking Arabic, he’d have gone by Ibrahim—and we know he did his correspondence in Judaeo-Arabic—but it just struck me as something I didn’t know.
