One thing you notice quickly after spending any time on Masto is that everyone on Twitter—especially high-follower accounts—writes their posts to be QTed. It’s not only the ubiquitous asides and defensiveness; it’s the topics that people choose and the content that they highlight. Tweets are written to anchor broader arguments and battles in a way that Masto posts are not.

I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Obviously none of this would have been possible without years of work by #Fediverse / #ActivityHub devs that came before. Even so, this is really something, no? 😃

Holy hell the twitter exodus is **still** accelerating. The influx of new users is up about 33% from yesterday, our biggest day so far. We are now seeing over 1,300 new users every day on QOTO!

For context, this is one of my favorite climate graphs, showing 800,000 years of atmospheric CO2, including the massive run-up over the past century. We're now around 420 parts per million (ppm), more than anytime in 800,000 years (actually more than anytime in the past 5 million years) and completely outside the natural ups and downs in the record. This is the driver of the current #climate crisis.
