Bitcoin is just one transitory manifestation of those dynamics. If people want to speculate on some asset, the price will be volatile -- whether it's tulips, energy futures, the British pound, or bitcoin. If the cost of environmental destruction is not borne by the people doing it, then people will get rich destroying the environment.

Bitcoin is based on the same rotten values than capitalism and designed to unleash it : it's a libertarian utopia (kill the state / pure market). That's no surprise it worsens every bad externality of capitalism.
