Jerome Powell estimates that the US labor force has shrunk by about 3.5 million during the pandemic. 2 million is due to early retirement driven by health concerns, asset appreciation, and layoffs early in pandemic. The remaining 1.5 million is due to pandemic deaths and lack of immigration.

@stargazersmith At the least, the anti-immigration people need to acknowledge that they intend to throw a big wrench in how our economy works. Instead, they deflect by spreading nonsense about people not wanting to work because of stimulus checks (which ended a year ago and were never enough to live on).
