Makin' soup and listening to the Saturday Night Hoedown
The smaller darker yellow squash I think is a spaghetti squash. I grew that one myself at a place I got renovicted from in spring of 2021, so yeah it's pretty old and might not go in the soup.
I grew the butternut where I live now, harvested the day before Hurricane Fiona destroyed all my gardens.
The lighter yellow one was grown by @simonm223 on his farm, neither of us knows what kind it is.
In case you don't know the Saturday Night Hoedown, it's a long-running radio request show that the PEI country music radio station has been playing since the 1950s. They pretty much play the same songs every week but it's still a fun time.
Basically all classic country music standards, too. I think the newest song I've ever heard them play is Achy Breaky Heart.
They also have a live stream.
CFCY also fills the "local flavour" niche on the airwaves here, so the Hoedown regularly features Maritime artists in the rotation.
Every week has at least one Stompin' Tom and one Rankin Family song. Usually the Hockey Song and the Mull River Shuffle.
Also pretty common to hear Lennie Gallant, Fiddlers' Sons, Stan Rogers, Hank Snow, Ron Hynes, and I'm sure others I can't think of right now.
Oh yeah, and EVERY Saturday Night Hoedown starts with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvUqtOulEZk
disaster porn maybe
I dug up this photo of what used to be my gardens on the day after Fiona.
The front box was tomatoes in wire cages, all flattened.
My squash was in the box in behind, which you can't really see because of the bit of maple tree on top of it.
The storm brought down two big poplars in the background that used to cast shade over most of the property. Sad the big old trees are gone, but next year I can probably plant bigger gardens.
Acorn squash?
