A computational model of how cell-level metabolic goals can become tissue-level morphological goals, with some surprising predictions confirmed by data in planarian regeneration.

Thank you to everyone who is liking and boosting our posts: we want to spread the stories of women in history and we couldn’t do it without you tapping that boost button.
We run this in our spare time, and have a handful of running costs to cover. So we do occasionally rattle the ko-fi tin: https://ko-fi.com/carvehername
There’s a cost of living crisis so we totally get it if you can’t donate. We’re always very happy to get your likes and boosts too! And they’re free.
Is this the cutest fungus ever!? 😲🍄💙
This mini mushroom was found in Taiwan and is believed to be Mycena subcyanocephala, often called the blue-headed bonnet. The species is characterized by its teeny tiny height of around 1-3 cm, and its blue to blue-gray cap (typically only 0.5–1.5 cm in diameter).
M. subcyanocephala thrives in temperate climates and usually colonizes decaying wood or leaf litter.

@ktdoggett They don't say there is nothing they can do. They deflect blame. The shooter was transgender for example. They get money and votes for supporting guns
@yasha As someone who tries not to cook, thank you

Today NPR published a good educational article on the science of the early stages of human pregnancy:
"Thanks to the many scientists who offered guidance and advice for this story, including Ripla Arora of Michigan State University, David Miller of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Joanne Muter of the University of Warwick"

Insect growth regulator pesticides affect how quickly #bees lose fat and age. Some #pesticides cause bees to begin foraging earlier. Others cause foragers to loss fat and age faster, consequently they collect less #pollen but the pollen they return with is fattier to compensate

I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
