If you think traditional #STEM #Education is - shall we say - suboptimal, let me introduce to to my friends at Newton's Attic:
They're my partners in crime to build up a new, inclusive, and certainly nontraditional Department of #EngineeringTechnology here at #UKY. Another big shoutout to #Toyota, who sponsors a lot of our students (many #firstGen and #underrepresented) and will provide us with a car we'll do unspeakable things to. I'll keep you posted.
Our piece on how science education needs to adapt for the misinformation age is now out in Scientific American.
@Tinu
I hope it goes well!
@tuscanmoon HI Paul! Nice to meet you!
@trinsec It seems to work for him!

50 years ago today, Count von Count made his first appearance on Sesame Street. The Vampire Muppet, who never seems to bite anyone and can be out in the sun, is obsessed with numbers and counting.
More than just a play on words, Vampire lore from several cultures includes compulsive counting and organization as a trait in such creatures- it's said you can escape one by scattering grain, which they'd then have to stop and count.

Good discussion with a colleague on how we write about #biology to lay audiences, and how we may need to do more to generalise knowledge of molecular biology. E.g. a better general understanding of RNA, what it is, and how it works might’ve done wonders against vaccine hesitancy. We have some fantastic physics communicators in the mainstream, in TV and in popular science publications, maybe we should try to get more cell and molecular biologists there too? #SciComm #MolBio #CellBio
Hello, #Mastodon! Greetings from my hospital bed.
This image depicts blood vessels in a pigeon’s head. It was captured by the veterinarian Scott Echols as part of an ongoing endeavour known as the Grey Parrot Anatomy Project, which aims to develop ways to aid diagnosis and treatment for a host of animals, from birds to humans. By understanding what is normal, doctors and scientists are better positioned to identify and ultimately treat the abnormal. #sciart #ScienceMastodon #medicalhistory
@Tinu if I don't agree with you I won't follow you. I will listen to you.
PhD in Cell Biology
Currently a Postdoc in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
