Something that I hope to spend more time on now that I've wrapped up my PhD is astrophotography.
This photo of the Milky Way was captured over the dark skies of the Ozarks in August 2020. Designated as an International Dark Sky Site, the glow of light pollution is still visible on the horizon, in this case the light dome from Little Rock and surrounding areas.
This photo is a stacked and tracked 30-image composite taken over 30 minutes.
Check out what's going on under the spines of this hedgehog! In this rendering I've given him sonic vibes, but he's sure not going anywhere fast 🦔 #oVertTCN
The truth is that even big collections of ordinary books distort space, as can readily be proved by anyone who has been around a really old-fashioned secondhand bookshop, one that looks as though they were designed by M. Escher on a bad day and has more stairways than storeys and those rows of shelves which end in little doors that are surely too small for a full-sized human to enter. Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read.
Have you ever seen an oak tree dance?
Britain is full of 'lost' rainforests, predominantly in the southwest and northwest of England, west Wales and the west coast of Scotland. There are other areas where the conditions are perfect too, like this one in the Peak District National Park.
When the rain starts and the cloud base drops into the rainforest, the trees come alive. Everywhere you look, there is magic and mystery.
Literally every visual talk I have ever attended starts this way, except ours obviously #VirtualMeetings #Talks #Presentations #Zoom
Its #flyday and #fluorescentfriday, so here is a Drosophila intestine with stem and progenitor cells in orange.

#Infographic of the colonial life of the #portuguesemanowar/ #physaliaphysalis, that won the first prize at FIIN exactly one year ago. Composed of four main different types of zooids, its an interesting example of an atypical life history. #sciart #scicomm #jellyfish #haeckel

Took this picture of the Wizard Nebula from Mexico City. I like the subtle nebulousity that this region has. Used a Player One Uranus-C OSC, Rokinon 135 mm @ f/2.8, l-enhance filter to gather this data during a couple of nights.

PhD in Cell Biology
Currently a Postdoc in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
