Lee’s paper is finally out! A tour de force characterization of a Chlamydia protein that repurposes a regulator of F-actin to do something it doesn’t normally do: breakdown epithelial cell junctions. https://www.cell.com/cell-host-microbe/pdf/S1931-3128(22)00526-1.pdf#.Y3eVCKKTwsQ.twitter
Please join me in sharing a big “thank you” on behalf of us newer #Mastodon users to all the folks at @Mastodon including @Gargron and the team, as well as the Instance admins and existing user base, and everyone else in the #fediverse. You all created an amazing, innovative platform that is finally getting the recognition it deserves and provides a better alternative to legacy #socialmedia platforms that are currently imploding. My sincere thanks!
John von Neumann’s wife, Klára Dán, asked him to put a picture of an elephant in his book “Theory of Games and Economic Behavior”. He complied, hiding one in plain sight in a set theoretic diagram.
There’s reason to believe Klára’s code was the first modern-style code ever to run on a computer.
You can dive into Klára’s life and work by listening to season 2 of “Lost Women of Science” https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/e1-the-grasshopper/id1590670779?i=1000555799822

@juergen_hubert @northfolk I honestly I think the teller forgot halfway through. Reading edited folktale collections, one tends to forget that oral tellers made all kinds of mistakes in spoken word.
I get criticism from people for "tampering with the original text." Dude, the original text did not make sense because the storyteller got distracted halfway through.

@Drosmel it's only a 170 yard stare in cat yards
I have learned one very important thing over the last few months: NEVER train your puppy to use a doorbell when they need to go outside. Although she does now ring it when she needs to go outside, it is also a constant sound now in my house. Every. Two. Minutes. Literally. I hear ding-dong in my sleep and at work!
I found this picture of my old, and only, #horse BC. He taught me to ride and moved to Kentucky with me when I started grad school. We were a pair for over 20 years until he passed away in Bluegrass country. I really miss him.
For tonight's #catsofmastodon, I give you the triple spoon, in descending order of size.

People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

Rather than telling women to say ‘no’ to improve inequity, we need “solutions that leaders can implement so that women aren’t forced to either decline the work or take on too much.”
Great concrete solutions provided in this article! 👇

Four photos from the two new walks on the Inverbroom Estate we've just added to Walkhighlands.
This one has a superb hidden gorge and waterfall, using a fascinating path that climbs and descends across the hillsides.

PhD in Cell Biology
Currently a Postdoc in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
