Just a test of adding markdown to a post in Friendica which I host myself.

@mathias Bad news. The markdown doesn’t show up in Mastodon, only Friendica. 😕

@ercanbrack
It works fine. You don't see markdown rendered, because your client which finally displays the status to you on the receiving end strips it off and ignores it. I can see the markdown status both in FediLab app, as well as in the web app of my home Mastodon instance.

@FailForward @ercanbrack somewhat annoyingly I have to conclude that in their default states, out of Friendica, Pleroma, Diaspora and Mastodon, only Mastodon is the one that doesn't handle rendering markdown. Somewhat surprising/disappointing as it is the biggest/largest network.

I have to admit when I've heard people say "if you run Pleroma [which I started with] it will be lighter to host, at the cost of functionality" but so far I am thinking Pleroma has more, not less, functionality compared to Mastodon. Neither of them have as much functionality as Friendica. Friendica, however, doesn't have (native) apps.

Isn't FediLab enough? It connects to friendica, but I never tried.
