@jeffjarvis While the effort can feed and expand upon the anti-intellectual attitudes of the uneducated, I think it is important to realize it is orchestrated by ELITES. Harvard maintains its vaulted position by an odd balancing act. Enough academic accomplishment to maintain a veneer of status. But it really feeds off elites, and children of elites often admitted with financial backing but no real academic qualifications. The more that others with real academic qualifications are admitted, the more that the "legacies" are potentially squeezed. While Harvard now has enough of an endowment that logically there is no reason to be concerned about future donations, that is not the way that those in charge of such finances think.
