#GoodNewsMonday: @doombunny's car is now 100% paid off, seven months ahead of schedule! (I added around $50/month to the regular payments to accelerate the payoff.)

Now uh I guess it's time for me to start looking. Who makes a good EV or PHEV performance-luxury coupe?

@smartwatermelon @doombunny Hyundai Ioniq 5/ Kia EV 6 are a bit larger than a coupe, but may be worth a look. Tesla is an obvious choice, unless you don’t want to support a lunatic. Mercedes has the EQS, but very $$. We love our Chevy Bolt, but it’s not really a luxury coupe - more of a mini- crossover. The problem is basically no one makes cars for the US market any more - it’s all crossovers and SUVs.

@GeorgeMari @doombunny definitely not a Tesla. I love my 2006 Infiniti G35 coupe and wish I could get an EV or PHEV like it.

@smartwatermelon @doombunny The closest thing I can think of that is actually on the market is the BMW i4.

Most automakers have abandoned PHEVs and gone all-in on EVs - only those late to the party, like all the Japanese automakers, Stellantis(Chrysler) are offering any PHEV models, and only as a stopgap for a few years until their full-EV models are ready.

Ford and GM are electrifying their highest profit-margin vehicles first, crossovers, pickups, SUVs.

European automakers still make cars (sedans and coupes) and so you may find EV versions of some of those for sale here in the US.
