The more you know about what raises scores on standardized tests, the less likely you'd be to celebrate a high score or fret about a low one. Today's 1st example (via Linda McNeil): "unteaching" in order to dumb kids down for the test.

You'll also be disillusioned if you attend to how tests are constructed: https://is.gd/hg6NyD.

Keep both in mind when you read, say, extended lamentations about "learning loss" that equate learning with test scores (& never bother to defend that assumption).

Time for the formal #GetFediHired post!

I have varied developer experience going back to the 90s. Front, back, apps, engines. I've spent a lot of time on game design tools -- game languages and VMs and interpreters.

If you want to build a toolset for your users to go creatively wild, we should talk. Doesn't have to be games.

(I recently spent a couple years building a narrative/dialogue engine for a multiplayer game, but a big layoff hit. Now I'm looking again.)

Thanks.

What should Biden do about the debt ceiling?

All of my friends who were regular Twitter users have taken a break from the app, myself included.

The acquisition by Elon Musk is a textbook example of how acquisitions destroy value.

Any #retrocomputing #apple #mac people out there that can help me please? Back in 1994 I started using my first Mac – a Centris 610. It came with OS 7.1.2 and I distinctly remember it having a ‘training’ program with it. It taught you about the basics of the Finder, clicking, double-clicking and dragging. I seem to remember it featured a goldfish bowl. Does anyone else remember it and what it was called? And is it available, even to watch, online anywhere?

A 5th grade teacher in FL was investigated for showing a Disney movie with a gay character in it. She has resigned bc she's sick of the politics.

Is this the America you want? No?

Then help us vote these ghouls out.

Hi Mastodon! I'm trying to rebuild my business here because Twitter is bad now, but I need help sharing it. I'm a jeweler! I specialize in fused glass and particularly Pride designs. My work is available at https://www.nora.jewelry/

Hi friends! I had the privilege of enjoying a bit of funemployment. I'm starting to look for the next adventure and would be excited to have a chat about (EMEA-remote) leadership positions in the product/cloud security space. Boosts would be greatly appreciated 🙏 My background is online under https://rational-security.io/CV and I'm available via DM or live at https://rational-security.io/virtual_beverage_with_me.

This video is a gift that keeps on giving.

Title 42 ended, but because the Biden Administration planned ahead and is actually competent, we didn’t see a crush of migrants streaming across the border.

The media, probably: “Border crossings are surprisingly lower. Here’s how that’s bad for the White House.”

Please respond to this if you would be open to working installing solar arrays in the desert, if transportation and living space was provided (but definitely not through company towns)

I'm asking because I think there's a lot of queer and otherwise displaced and severely marginalized people who might benefit from an opportunity to make a new life away from whatever hell they live in currently, but opportunities are so slim as for escape to seem impossible.

If you know, you know…

Hello! I've made my very first game. It's a short game about a botanist banished to the moon for attempting to create sentient plant life, crafted in Bitsy.

Thanks and enjoy!

I think Mastodon people should use the "like" button more.

People are told not to like because liking doesn't broadcast posts like boosting does, and the site needs boosts. And replies are preferred because they're deeper engagement or something.

But, on some level, we want people to keep using Mastodon. If someone posts something and followers like it, they know stuff is getting seen here and they'll want to keep using the site. I just don't see what's gained by holding back on the likes

Rather than fight for basic human rights, it appears that Austin’s biggest children’s hospital has just purged its entire adolescent care unit, under the weight of a fake politicized anti-trans investigation by Texas AG Ken Paxton.
