Hey all, would appreciate a post boost on this one.
I, unfortunately, got laid off last week and am looking for a new job! If you know of any going that fit my skillset of video content creation, educational CG writing, CG generalist then I'd love to hear about it!
Hey everybody, will you please boost this and help my friend @hauntedhideaway find her #librarian peeps on here? 📚
She lost her beloved #Twitter community of fellow #librarians and would like to build a new group here. Help a gal out!
Thanks in advance!!

Folks are treating the recent tech layoffs as something spontaneous. They were not. The current layoffs were orchestrated by a hedge fund (TCI Fund).
This hedge fund demanded that the big tech companies lay people off because they were being paid too much. Let that one sink in: a hedge fund manager saying that you're being paid too much.
Note that TCI is demanding that Google lay off more people.
When I was about ten, I noticed an infrared light in our VCR and became convinced that it was a hidden camera that my parents were using to spy on me.
I wasn’t a bad kid so I wasn’t worried, but I convinced myself that if I sang and danced for the camera, my parents would FINALLY see my talent and help me get on Star Search.
For the next month, I did super weird performances in front of that VCR until I finally acknowledged that they hadn’t provided any feedback on my skillz, at which point I concluded that the only logical conclusion was that the camera wasn’t working, so I…
DISMANTLED THE VCR to examine the camera.
Once everything was opened up and pulled apart, I realized I had no idea what I was looking at so I just screwed everything back together with a bunch of loose, rattling parts inside.
About a week later, I remember watching my dad trying to play a Beverly Hills Cop VHS tape to no avail and silently thinking “this is YOUR fault for not seeing my full POTENTIAL, daaaaad!”
If you want to learn more about corporate power and the egg industry -- including the overstated impact of the avian flu on egg pricing by large firms like Cal-Maine -- I recommend reading this: https://farmaction.us/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Farm-Action-Letter-to-FTC-Chair-Lina-Khan.pdf
Guys, I’m sorry, but I did a search here at home and I found what I think might be some classified documents? Not sure how they would have gotten here. #justkidding
I've just discovered that there's a petition on the #UK government petitions website to remove #LGBT content from the curriculum, effectively resurrecting the horrendous Section 28 from the 1980s.
There is also a counter-petition. As of this morning, the remove petition has over 178,000 signatures, the counter-petition has just over 2,500 signatures.
Please sign the counter-petition.

Hey folks. I am still looking for new opportunities. My current role ends March 31.
If you can look at my resume & share it with someone you think might be interested. I sure would appreciate it.
I am happy to talk about lots of 100% remote possibilities, not just dev roles.

By the late 1980s, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) was the largest computer firm other than IBM, with over 120,000 employees. DEC had multiple very large sites, including an utterly amazing facility built in an old mill. They ran a private helicopter service from Logan Airport in Boston (I rode it a few times when consulting for them). It seemed like they would go on forever.
But after a series of misjudgments regarding the rapidly changing computing environment, they began shrinking. Then they were absorbed into other firms. Then they faded away completely.
Much the same could happen to other firms today, even the very large ones that seem like "they would go on forever."
I'm older so I remember things. Everything you see happening today should be understood this way:
The top tax rate used to be 90% in order to prevent the really rich from destroying democracy.
The corporate tax rate was 50% because corporations exist to serve society.
AND the inheritance tax was really high to keep family dynasties from gaining power over us.

i was laid-off twice early in my career in very large reorgs / cost-cutting.
the thing that wld have been helpful for me to hear then was 'this is not abt you. you were a number on someone's spreadsheet. they wanted that number to go down by 1000 or 2000 or 10,000'.
so, to anyone who needs to hear that today:
it's not abt you. you did nothing wrong.
