This essay is an utterly brilliant take on #AIhype. I'll put a few excerpts here, but you should definitely go read the whole thing:

This is what’s on the line in the August 8th special election in #Ohio. It’s bad for all of us. I don’t understand why anyone would want it.

It’s literally a vote to give up our power to change our laws.

Vote no.

Actively looking for a new role in infosec/IT/GRC. Would be great in grc/audit/information security program development/oversight role. Great communication skills. Also interested in roles that take my foundations and push them into new, engaging roles.

Hello Fediverse friends! My partner, who has total 16 years of experience in software in an impressive array of various technologies, is looking for new opportunities. What he's looking for:
- #Rust (#web or #embedded or anything really)
- 100% #remote in Germany or hybrid in #Berlin
- German employment contract
- meaningful work (no nonsense like web3, cars, or gambling)

Do you know anyone hiring for positions that would fulfill those expectations?

It’s hard to understate how much of an impact #Vim and Bram Moolenaar indirectly has had on my life.

It’s the end user program I’ve used the most in my life, for over 20-25 years now, and most days of my professional life. It’s still the one that gives me some of the most joy and satisfaction (maybe I’m a weirdo for that).

Today I’m feeling grateful for his work, thinking of his family and wishing them all ease during this time of transition, and hoping for the best for the future of the Vim project.

Bram Moolenaar, the open-source developer and the original author, maintainer, release manager for Vim, a programmer's text editor, passed away. #RIP

The legendary Dan Wood (https://mastodon.social/@danwood@mastodon.cloud) is job hunting. His groundbreaking Mac app "Watson" led to the ubiquitous term "Sherlocked" when Apple introduced their own VERY similar app to his. If you are looking for a time-tested visionary in Apple ecosystems, give him a ring!

Do folks have experience with various cat volunteer opportunities in the SF East Bay? Cat Town vs Berkeley humane etc — who has the best programs? Probably for *weekday* volunteering. (Typo)

How does "The first robotic servicing mission on the surface of Mars" sound to y'all?

Well, if you're #NASA #JPL, this awesome headline could be yours for the low cost of a few nitrogen puffs!

This thread is just me fantasizing how Perseverance could potentially use its gDRT to clean the dusty solar panel and camera lens on Ingenuity and make history with this extraordinary servicing operation! 🧵
