Signal is a nonprofit. But what does this mean in practice? Today we do something most tech co’s avoid: talk money. What does it cost for Signal to play in a lane dominated by billion $ corporations, while rejecting the surveillance business model?

Hello! A brief pause from erratic Wayland.social shenanigans.

I, venerable admin, am on the hunt for a job. My interests lie in FOSS; SWE, web development, journalism, technical writing, and developer relations are all up my alley.

If you happen to be hiring or are looking for a contractor in these spaces, I'd love to chat.

And if not, boosts are always appreciated.

❤️

This sort of false and blatantly racist fear-mongering used to be confined to white nationalist blogs. Now it's just a routine tweet from a powerful Republican senator on the Armed Services Committee.

I am looking for like-minded people in the fediverse for sharing thoghts, projects and information about woodworking, woodcarving and especially spoon carving. How can I find these people?
Are there any existing groups or servers with these topics?
Retoots / Boosts are appreciated!

I know the odds are low, but the fediverse has come through for me in amazing and unexpected ways before.

For those who don't know me, I'm a 29-year-old support engineer and FOSS enthusiast, who is currently in kidney failure.

If you live in North Carolina or can travel to Duke Hospital, and would be willing to consider donating your kidney, please call 1-800-249-5864 and let them know you want to inquire about donating to Timothy Dyer (my legal name).

Thank you! (Boosts appreciated)

This is like the fifth time my wife has asked me to explain what gaslighting is but she insists that we’ve never had this discussion before and I’m starting to doubt the reliability of my memories.

Experian is a criminally negligient "credit bureau" that hoovers up personal information, sells it, and lets identity thieves easily steal "your" account.

There is absolutely no accountability because Congress doesn't give a damn -- and Experian blatantly doesn't give a damn.

With flows from the vital Colorado River in peril, @ProPublica and the Desert Sun found that just 20 extended families in a stretch of California desert used more river water than entire states -- and they mostly used it to grow hay.

Farmers in one family, the Abattis, used more water than the entirety of the Las Vegas metro area.

Oh, and the answer to “What is Thread Local Storage” or any other screening question is not “-“. I understand your time is valuable and so is mine, so please be kind and let’s not waste our collective time.

One of the more limiting things about Signal is you have to give out your mobile number to everyone. Even if it is a burner, I still don't want to advertise to the world that it's mine.

Was happy to read today that Signal is now beta testing a new username feature.

The ball's density also varies, but players don't learn the value until after choosing their raquets. The infamous 'bowling ball table tennis' region of the parameter space often leads to equipment damage.
