I really appreciate that the @auschwitzmuseum reminds me daily about the extermination camps. It’s not intrusive, and not unduly upsetting. But it gives me a daily moment to reflect on the human losses of the Holocaust and the bigger crises of humanity before and since. Thank you.

*Sheepish request* I'm new to Mastodon, but a lot of my former Twitter followers don't know I'm here yet. Someone suggested I could simply ask you fine people to boost me. Would you be so kind? (I promise to post a photo of my dog to say thanks). #WelcomeToMastodon

“TRON: LEGACY” was released on this day in 2010.

I've read many requests to add Mastodon links to GitHub profiles for verification and discovery purposes.

My team is working on allowing you to add a number of social profile links, but given upcoming holiday vacations, it won't ship until the new year. We don't want to rush something out at the potential cost of disrupting what is generally a quiet time for our engineers.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't talk about in progress work on social media, but y'all seem like you can keep a secret.

So I know folks are gearing down for year-end and holidays, but my long-time friend @funkatron found out his job is going away early next year. He’s looking for a US time-zone-friendly, 100% remote, full-time development role. Python + VueJS is in his wheelhouse but he can work with PHP, C# and other JS stuff.

For the love of my thumbs and fingers and time. Please please just stop making me pick a profile when I open your streaming service on my TV or my phone or my tablet. Or give me an option to just open the last profile that was open. Seriously. Why? No same UX person would do this. Some dumbass media exec did this didn't they?

Oh, wow, Tom Lehrer has released all of his songs into the public domain. Apparently also his website will shut down "at some date in the not too distant future" so now's a good time to download directly.

"In short, I no longer retain any rights to any of my songs.
So help yourselves, and don’t send me any money."

For those of you who may not be aware, Starbucks Workers United has started a 3-day strike, lasting through Sunday, December 18. Workers are protesting unfair labor practices at the company and demanding that the company bargain in good faith. https://inthesetimes.com/article/starbucks-strike-union-labor-workers-united-nlrb

I am the very model of a devotee of Mastodon.
The other social media, we wore it out and passed it on.
A man can kill a website but its lifeblood has immunity:
We’ll just come over here and reassemble the community.
So cultivate inclusive manners, promulgate your welcome mats,
Celebrate our freedom from the whims of random plutocrats.
The fediverse has first, no Musk, and next, no Ye, and last, no Don.

Hello! I’m new to Mastodon, so I thought I’d say an #introduction #introductionpost

I’m also the Executive Director of Project Drawdown (drawdown.org), which aims to be a leading global resource for climate solutions.

Unboosted for ~40 minutes?

Unacceptable!

With each new surge of Mastodon users, I feel the need to point out:

1. Welcome!

2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.

3. Lots of people are willing to help.

4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.

5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.

Be patient.

@mattblaze obvious solution: buy 15 more planes and have them all fly to different locations at the same time like those mini-coopers in The Italian Job

I participated in a Twitter space hosted by @katienotopoulos@twitter.com w/a lot of journalists

When I joined @jason@twitter.com, one of Musk's apparatchiks, was badgering @drewharwell@twitter.com, a suspended reporter, and Jack Sweeney, the guy behind the accounts that tracked jets

Hi everyone! I guess we're doing this social media thing from scratch? OK, here it goes:
I'm a reporter @ProPublica writing about worker safety & migration. Sometimes I'll dabble outside this universe. I'm looking forward to figuring out how this platform works. If you have any pointers, I'm all ears.

Here's my first story at ProPublica published in mid-November about how the U.S. refugee resettlement system failed an Afghan family in rural Missouri:

Welcome #TwitterMigration! If you're not adding alt text to your media uploads, please do, since it helps out screenreaders.

Also remember to make your hashtags PascalCase or camelCase, since it makes it easier on screenreaders!
