@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social the exact same thing happened to my uncle, with his scooter. He had a Vespa. I had a buddy that had his motorcycle stolen, and the cops entered the wrong Vin number after recovery, and then sold it at auction.

Policing should never have a profit motive.

In high school my car was stolen. And I'd call the police everyday to see if it as recovered, they always said no. Then about 10 days later the neighboring county police called me said that my car was being moved to a private impound lot because I hadn't picked it up for 7 days. They had called the police officer I had been calling every day to say they had the car, if it needed to get moved to their impound, or picked up by me.
