@Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday , capitalism works great in some situations. If you want to go to the moon, build an internet, map the world, etc, I doubt there is a better system than capitalism. The problem is it also works to create efficient wars, spread diseases, undercut labor (and don't get me wrong, unions are pure capitalist constructs, I am not talking about them here) and literally incentivise pollution. We don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Without capitalism, the Corona Virus would still not have a vaccine. Polio would be spreading. Small pox would still be a thing. There are positive and negatives for every form of economies and government. Even a religious dictatorship has merit, in small ways, with the right conditions.
@JonKramer @Radical_EgoCom @LaNaehForaday every single corona vaccine was developed through funding from government created money. Capitalist companies are not responsible for that.
@duckwhistle @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday , key word, "funding". That cash was developed through capitalism, and those funds were paid to corporations that are solidly capitalistic. It wasn't the State University of ____ that made or sold those vaccines. It was Pfizer, J&J, Moderna, etc.
@duckwhistle @Radical_EgoCom@kolektiva.social @LaNaehForaday interesting theory. So why bother to collect taxes?
@JonKramer @Radical_EgoCom @LaNaehForaday well thats why its necessary, the actual motivation for governments to collect taxes is because they've always done it, and the idea government spending is entirely dependant on tax collection, gives justification to politicians for not investing in things that don't generate wealth for the rich people who fund lobbyists, and give political donations, (& kickbacks).
@JonKramer @Radical_EgoCom @LaNaehForaday collecing taxes destroys money, reducing the supply. If you put more money into the economy than their is demand for, you get inflation. Take too much out and you get deflation (and often unofficial currencies circulating).
Its part of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT), and it's mathematically sound.
MMT is much better for modeling economics than Neoliberalism, but like all economic theory it is lacking in the human behavioural aspect.
