An important news piece in Science about reviewing preprints. IMO, this is the future - I feel that journals add very little value nowadays, if not doing straight out harm.
But... ->

@ShaiCarmi I do like the idea of ‘preprint peer-review by the community’.
But what would the role of journals than be? To scan preprint servers and ‘publish’ pre-prints picked by journal editors? As a sort of quality label?

@EricPelletier @JoramMooiweer

Yes, exactly this - I think that journals should pick pre-prints for highlighting, as well as write commentaries and reviews. Otherwise, what does it mean to "publish" when the article is already published?

@EricPelletier @JoramMooiweer

I don't like PCI because it's too formal, and thus carries many of the same problems of peer review in journals. I don't want to read full papers and write full reviews. It's not productive and not helpful. I want to read the parts relevant and interesting for me and comment on them.
