@ajsadauskas Personally, I don't think instances should be blocking other instances -- that's how you get echo chambers. Now, if a USER wants to block another USER or an entire instance, then I believe the user absolutely should have the choice to do that (and, indeed, the user does!)
@maeost @ajsadauskas I never said you can't block. Indeed you should. BUT it should be the responsibility of the INDIVIDUAL USER to block what they don't want to see, NOT the admin of the instance
@JoshuaACasey @maeost @ajsadauskas it's easier to defer to a set of trusted moderators than to have to do it yourself though
@ajsadauskas @JoshuaACasey See your point and I know you didn‘t said that. But I‘d rather choose an instance with rules & moderation. I‘m sick and tired to block those nasty sh** individual by myself. Wish you never become a target of them! 💚
@JoshuaACasey @maeost @ajsadauskas It sort of is down to the individual. Instances list what they will and won’t allow, and what will cause another instance to be moderated/blocked. If someone prefers an “anything goes” experience, they can choose an instance to match (or even start their own).
@JoshuaACasey @ajsadauskas Personally, I think Nazi-free spaces are cool and there's no reason *not* to curate a safe space for marginalized people
But sure, let's endanger people in the name of not making an echo chamber
@JoshuaACasey @ajsadauskas I agree!
@JoshuaACasey @ajsadauskas i agree generally, but some times i guess it'd be a no brainer. have a look in your server's "about" for examples 😨 . in theory any user can look for what examples of "no brainers" are and decide if moderation is too strong or not strong enough.
@JoshuaACasey @ajsadauskas You should always keep in mind, that an admin of an instance spend his own money and time to give the community a communication plattform. I personally do not want to support instances, which cultivate a negative body of thought. As user you should choose your instance with care - there is always the option to move your account to another instance. But i understand your concerns.

To have an „Echo chamber“ WITHOUT Nazi-shit, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia… tbc is in my opinion the best „echo chamber“ you can have here. Think loads of users are here because of that, so do I. It‘s a brilliant feature of mastodon to block hate / hatred in general. Just one reason to be here now…. 💪🏼
