Everyone is too focused on the BlueSky App. The real innovation is the AT protocol. It's public. It won't take long for developers to build Mastodon-like microblogging and community apps on top of it, just as Masto, MIsskey and Pixelfed are built atop ActivityPub now. The ATP has benefits over AP (as currently formulated). But upstarts won't have the fediverse's aversion to ads and other monetization schemes so they can build swell stock swindles on the potential. Rinse/Repeat
@atomicpoet @shoq (disclaimer: I have no idea how these protocols work). Would it be possible for mastodon to use and be compatible with both AT and ActivityPub at the same time. Because that could be an interesting idea

Yup. As someone else mentioned, there are already platforms on the Fediverse that support multiple protocols. They can see/share content from servers running software that people on Masto can't.
