2022 is rapidly departing and 2023 is about it make its grand entrance. It’ll likely be a quiet night at home. As I reflect on 2022, I wonder what topics I should include in my #blogging activities for 2023. Any #suggestions?

#csa and #csam #prevention and #research? #academiclife? #parenthood? While I continue to write traditional academic papers, writing #popularscience pieces is more rewarding. Hoping to start #freelancewriting in 2023.

"as Prostasia Foundation prepares to introduce its new Executive Director for 2023, the time is right for us to return to the field of political advocacy – and we are looking to recruit a new Activist to our team to lead this work." buff.ly/3v8w0qE

"During 2022, the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ people have come under renewed challenge, not only in the United States, but also in Eastern Europe." buff.ly/3v8w0qE

@atomicpoet yeah. I do like Twitter's ability to restrict replies to a tweet. Mastodon definitely needs that feature. Their "reasoning" for not having QTs (officially) is "to prevent harassment". Well, harassment can still happen in replies, hence why it can be useful to be able to turn replies off, or restrict replies to people that you follow

Last night, I got really frustrated about Mastodon's lack of comment control.

To me, this feature is an absolute must -- and is critical to community safety.

So what did I do?

I looked for it on other Fediverse platforms!

Then I found that it existed on Streams (see screenshot).

When I mentioned that this existed, devs from Epicyon and Pinetta told me that this is a feature they're developing too.

Moral: if something doesn't exist on Mastodon, the Fediverse might still have it!

Andrew Tate’s video in response to Greta Thunberg allowed Romanian authorities to confirm he was in the country, and arrest him in human trafficking investigation, due to the pizza chain shown in the 2-minute rant.

"While Fox and Tucker Carlson claim he is 'speaking out' against child sexual abuse, what they are doing in reality is criticizing and vilifying those who are actually working to reduce it." buff.ly/3VwxJAZ

@evacide even worse if they're disabled. Basically no country allows disabled people to immigrate "because we're a burden".

"The point, though, is to link LGBTQ people to child sex abuse, one of the most common tactics hate groups use to turn people against LGBTQ equality." buff.ly/3EEeZdo

RT @DrStaceyPatton
Hitting a child on the butt can trigger INVOLUNTARY sexual arousal. The child is unaware because their mind is too busy registering the pain to acknowledge the arousal. You're not just hitting muscle & fat. There's key veins and arteries in the rectum, uterus, vagina, and penis.

Meta, Software, Cloud services, and a warning.

@yuki2501 linode isn't the first. DigitalOcean has offered Mastodon for a while

If we could stop referring to people trying to deliberately cut power to thousands of people in the middle of a nationwide cold snap as "vandals" or "burglars" that'd be great.

They're terrorists. If another country did that, we'd call it an act of war.

Who'd have thought the winning tweet of the year would be such a late entry?!

@joaogomes @Nonbiner@mastodon.nl @igd_news what "victims"? The vast majority of *actual* pedophiles are law-abiding citizens like anyone else, because 'pedophile' is not a synonym for 'child sex abuser' (even though the media loves to use it that way. Which, unfortunately is detrimental to child protection since it distracts from the reality that most child sex abusers are not actually pedophiles)

@Kencf618033 @igd_news "Strange Danger" is misleading. And it teaches kids to not be aware that statistically they are more in danger of being abused (or "kidnapped") by someone they know, whether it's a family member in their own home or a family friend, or a well-respected community priest that they see every Sunday.

Very rarely (<10%) is it ever an actual random "stranger"
