Oh, look. It's a ridiculous piece of nonsense (that also completely ignores that most CSAM is found on fucking Facebook). https://twitter.com/disclosetv/status/1609813773862289408
Let's do a poll: Have you seen CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) on Mastodon?
putting aside the merits of the tiktok ban debate in the US, there is a typical lack of self-awareness in it all, given that american tech companies dominate the sector in so much of the world & collect massive amounts of data on people globally. sure, of course, american companies lack the relationship with the USG that bytedance has with the PRC, but they certainly *are* american and have marinated in american ways of thinking about interests, ideals, law, jurisdiction, privacy, etc. so...
Taking out insurance to pay off victims is not a solution to child sexual abuse.

"The @FSCArmy is now engaged in a process that could create stable banking for the adult industry and its workers, and hopefully end the predatory fees charged by credit cards and financial services." https://buff.ly/3V7TVkE
"Kids use a pretty small segment of the Internet. But teen use of online services overlaps largely with adults'. Congress should pass a comprehensive privacy law, not this last-ditch effort."

Another day, another "for the children" bill being pushed for the omnibus.
This time it's COPPA 2.0, which thoughtlessly extends a framework that makes sense for little kids, to teens as well.
That's a problem.

Of course, this fact - known for decades - will continue to be ignored by education bureaucrats, because they're not actually concerned with developing their students' brains. https://twitter.com/MindShiftKQED/status/1593061359146745857
@chosafine @mmasnick this looks like the best option, imo
You can keep your Mastodon account extra safe by using Two Factor Authentication (2FA).
To activate this, log in through your server's website and go to ⚙️ Preferences > Account > Two Factor Auth, then follow the instructions.
It is slightly tricky to set up, but once it's been set up it's very easy to use.
2FA means that even if someone finds out your password they cannot log in. With 2FA activated, your phone will give you a special one-time code to allow your password to work.
It's not available yet, but I'm looking forward to the annual message from the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
I can preview it's content: "We're not corrupt. La-la-la-la."
It likely will hail the passage of internet censorship legislation as part of the NDAA that prevents publication of some information concerning the ethics of federal judges.
It likely won't mention that more than a hundred judges heard cases in which they had a financial interest.

This is a change in tactics and important to note. The linked thread explains how obscenity laws have been used against LGBT people in the past.

I’m seeing lots of schadenfreude about the guy “losing” $200 billion. It benefits no one. A better way would be to tax the megabillionaires fairly: i.e., returning the bulk of their wealth to the society that made them rich in the first place.
A new study estimates that 7% of Americans (19 million people) have Long COVID (LC). 25% report it affects their daily activities "a lot." Interestingly, LC is more prevalent among folks age 25-34 than among folks age 65+.
But masks make you look silly, amiright?

@hrheingold but also for to their isolated nature, Amish communities are a hotbed for child abuse
"An Illinois school for students with disabilities has routinely used the police to handle discipline, resulting in the highest arrest rate of any district in the country.
