LinkedIn is a doxxing site. They have a huge database where you can look up the real-time location of millions of people during work hours!

Watching Musk’s Birdsite ban journalists and the official Mastodon account for talking about the @elonjet account and then waging war on Mastodon by treating any links to major Mastodon servers as malware, and all of the above causing yet another major migration to here, has been an interesting morning read.

Free speech anyone?

Reddit has given a huge boost to the misinformation operation targeting GrapheneOS on their platform with their new blocking feature:

The sockpuppet accounts used to attack GrapheneOS now start out blocking our account and others.

@daveyalba "should be working tomorrow" = "I fired everyone so we're killing the Twitter Spaces feature"

I just left that massive Space because neither side of the debate bothered to actually separate the issues involved here. One is plane tracking which is actually legal and necessary for security and safety reasons and the other is tracking individuals.

There’s just no fucking way members of the public can track one or more specific persons using publicly available tools. I mean, Apple’s Find My and other personal tracking apps require consent or approval from the tracked person or device. What Jason was insinuating or hypothesizing is just simply not possible. Yeah, you can arguably track someone using AirTags but your iPhone will tell you if one is nearby.

And then, jumping through god knows how many hoops linking the non existent personal tracking to banning reporters writing about plane tracking is some level of remarkable acrobatic skills probably unseen until now. And then refusing to engage in questions on those baseless suspensions.

Unfuckingbelievable. And now apparently the motherfucker himself joined in. I’m done listening.

session is so anonymous that i don't even know who i am

Elon Bird site Sad

So childish. No, that's unfair to children.

How long, do we suppose, it will be until Elon decides on a whim to ban everyone with a Mastodon link in their bio/username?

Update:

@mastodon.social and @mastodon.lol have closed new user registrations.

Most of the larger instances are still open. Consider joining a somewhat less populated instance. There are thousands of instances and each one will give you full access to the fediverse.

RT @elgindy_@twitter.com

Musk’s Twitter has inexplicably suspended the account of @MossawaCenter@twitter.com, a human rights group that promotes equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

Confirmed that :birdsite: is censoring people.

If you try to post a link to Mastodon, Twitter flags it as harmful & blocks it from posting.

If you use a link-shortener to change the URL, you can post the message but then Twitter tries to scare-off people who read it by inserting a fake security warning.

@hankgreen because without the algorithm, people know that boosting is more useful than just liking. but I see a fair balance of both in general...

So, things are getting kind of interesting.

In the last few hours the new user rate has jumped from around 1000 per hour to more than 2500 per hour. While this is a big increase, it is nothing like back on Nov 18, when the average was over 10,000 new users per hour.

Still, this does feel like a new surge. Mastodon struggle back in November with the last wave. Let's hope we're ready for what comes next. Big shout out to the amazing admins and moderators all over the world!

Elon claims that linking to ElonJet is "ban evasion." Which is... quite a ridiculous interpretation of "ban evasion."
