If you had told me “Apple is just the same as Google on privacy” six years ago, you would have been wrong because they were incomparably better (ar.al/notes/apple-vs-google-on).

If you were to tell me the same thing today, you would still be wrong. Because when they implement client-side scanning, they will actually be worse (ar.al/2021/08/08/apple-is-tryi).

I will defend a rapist over a cop because 1) I am a Marxist and from a class standpoint, people who commit rape are usually members of the underclass whose crimes are often the product of broader systemic issues while cops are protectors of the bourgeois state and 2) people who commit genuine rapes are overwhelmingly likely to later see their actions as wrong versus cops who don't usually reform themselves
