I'm about the age when one normally has a mid-life crisis. I bought myself a bicycle to replace my 23 year old bicycle. I did *not* go overpay for a social media site and then seek to destroy its value in less than a month.

I think, on the whole, I'm doing okay so far.

I've seen a few folks join Mastodon and complain that it's too difficult to follow people on other servers, with the cutting and pasting and whatnot. But @bramus has now created a neat Chrome extension (or bookmarklet, if you prefer to go that route) that let's you avoid all that hassle.

I just tested it out... by following @bramus with it!

Morning mastodon world. Extra special good morning to all you newbies here in Mastodon. Hope you get comfy and find your groove.

Its definitely not twitter but that's a good thing.

Couple of bits of advice.

Always alt text your images.

Use hashtags. They actually mean something here.

Repost aka boost liberally. It is how people find others also shows you are here to be more than just your own voice.

Tip your instances admin if at all possible for you financially

This is Marsha Blackburn, the lead Republican co-sponsor of the "Kids Online Safety Act" at a hate rally targeting transgender kids.

Groups like the Heritage foundation are openly saying they want to use this bill to ban LGBTQ+ content online

Why are Dems supporting this?

sexual violence

Egyptian authorities should have zero tolerance for sexual violence, but they all too often ignore attacks on refugees, some of whom are children.

#Egypt should take rape allegations seriously, investigate them, and punish perpetrators.

DOES THAT MEAN I CAN ONLY INTERACT WITH PEOPLE ON MY MASTODON SERVER?

NOPE!

[I'm not shouting. Well, I guess I'm shouting...]

All servers interact with each other behind the scenes. The only noticeable difference is that people have different servers at the end of their account addresses.

Please, I want to spend a couple days with my partner offline and instead we are watching “allies” advocate moves that would absolutely destroy our community. We need help. People need to speak up against App Store terms and GARM standards. Please listen to trans sex workers.

People are acting like right wing hate is a twitter problem because that is where they see it.

We see it on twitter because TRANS PEOPLE USE TWITTER. The big community here is because it’s the only site left that allows sex workers to interact directly with everyone else.

Did we learn nothing from losing tumblr? App Store has not stopped demanding sites censor sexuality

IF TWITTER IS REMOVED FROM THE APP STORE TO “COMBAT HATE” IT WILL NOT BE LET BACK IN UNTIL IT COMPLIES WITH RULES AGAINST VISIBLE SEXUALITY

This will hurt way more trans people!!

The word “groomer” is not against the App Store terms of service. Trans people posting nudes is.

This content encouraging violence is also all over the mainstream news and much more populous sites like facebook. Removing the one platform left for sex workers won’t stop it.

People can’t seem to see it in the moment but we have much more to lose by twitter going down than we have to gain. Very few people, in their outrage, are demanding human rights inclusive standards from the App Store or moderators. We have so much to lose

97% of online sex workers rely on twitter. The killer was radicalized on sites like 4chan. They will still have facebook groups and discord.

But his victims don’t really use those platforms - Daniel Aston’s last post was a nude on twitter! twitter.com/AshleyLatke/status

No! Non-sex working trans people need to stop suggesting App Store removal!

The Nazis will still be all over Fox News, but we will not only have trouble accessing our main tool to organize against them, but endless sex workers will be destabilized. twitter.com/Esqueer_/status/15
