Such absolute petulance. You can't tweet Mastodon links anymore (like, to tell people where you're going) because Twitter has determined they are "harmful."

So, hey, unlike when there were (more reasonable!) suspensions under the old regime, I don't see anyone whining about "my first amendment rights!" and "Congress needs to do something!" after tonight's bans.

Perhaps (hopefully?) because everyone here recognizes how free speech actually works?

#Musk wrote on #Twitter, “Criticizing me all day long is totally fine, but doxxing my real-time location and endangering my family is not.”

There is no evidence whatsoever that any of these journalists harmed Musk in any way.

Seeing some concern that instances will close registrations due to the increase in new users.

At this time the network is running well, and almost all major servers are accepting new accounts.

But we are still nowhere near the levels of early November.

Keeping an eye on the situation and will report any changes.

#twittermigration

Talking to former Twitter trust & safety folks... and they note that *normally* under existing policy, accounts are supposed to get strikes for violating policy, not be immediately permabanned.

Remember how Elon said no content moderation policies have changed?

Well, I'd say... that's changed.

Musk has begun banning journalists who have criticized him from Twitter including WaPo’s Drew Harwell, NYT’s Ryan Mac, and CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan. My whole timeline is glitched out and people continue to report my tweets so I’m worried I’ll be banned soon too! #twitter #musk #twittermigration #twitterexodus #tech #news #technews #technology #elon

Ironically, the Great Banning is the first time that Mastodon has felt like it's fulfilling the role for me that Twitter once did—a place to keep up-to-date on a fast-moving event, where everyone is talking about the same thing

Protocols, not platforms. That we let ourselves get suckered into platforms over protocols is one of the biggest unforced errors in the history of the net, and if Musk makes that widely obvious, it will be a significant silver lining in his sophomoric conflagration.

Lol, no joke. This is what Twitter just recommended to me as a follow. An account it just suspended.

My Twitter account has been suspended. I’ve received no explanation.

Driving journalists from Twitter seems like a very stupid move. That's one of the only thing keeping it from becoming just Bigger Gab.

Wow, meanwhile over on the #birdsite Musk has suspended the accounts of multiple journalists who are reporting on him and Twitter including WashPo's @drewharwell and NYT's Ryan Mac

Elon has gone on damage control banning journalists. Any and everything related to me is banned. So much for free speech.

A list of those suspended so far.
Donnie O Sullivan - CNN
Ryan Mac - NYTimes
Matt Binder - Mashable
Arron Rupar
Drew Harwell - Washington Post
