Anti-sex work NGO's lobby for more prosecutions, harsher penalties and police training. These efforts result in police running fake stings, increased surveillance, conflation of sex work w/trafficking and forced diversion. Majority of the media is a 📣 for ALL of this!

Huge win for privacy: Facebook tracking is illegal in Europe!

EU privacy regulators say Facebook and Instagram must not force users to agree to tracking by putting this requirement into their terms. In the future, Facebook must add a clear Yes & No option through which you can accept being tracked - or deny it! #Fight4Privacy 💪

If you bury your head in the sand as a parent telling yourself that your young person is not experiencing this, you’re placing them in greater harm. An abstinence approach to sex education and digital sex education has the opposite effect of helping them, it creates more harm.

Musk encouraged everyone to vote Republican in the midterms, endorsed Ron DeSantis for president in 2024, and has repeatedly catered to far-right provocateurs on Twitter

It's pretty fucking simple

So why does it need to grow further? Because millions more people need access to healthy, just, sustainable, user-friendly communication tools

[Mastodon] faces two major limitations… sustainability, as the commons-based peer production model... has clear limits to growth… and perhaps most crucial... lack of participatory governance

Ultimately, what is at stake is our capacity... [to] manage planetary-scale communication spaces that are, in the broadest sense, democratic.

If more people come over to Mastodon, I can see having old-fashioned interactions that we had on Twitter before the algorithm started showing me tweets from mostly large accounts.

🚨 Please pay attention! 🚨

Even today people pretend Tumblr was deplatformed and destroyed over abuse material.

We now have it on record of App Stores complaining literally about “”

It was NEVER about abuse, it’s conservative capitalism at scale. Evil. twitter.com/i/web/status/15937

The Balancing Act of Reporting on Vulnerable Kids While Protecting Their Privacy
---

The standard in journalism is to identify sources by their full names whenever possible. Readers deserve to know who’s talking, particularly when a source is accusing a person or a public system of wrongdoing. And it’s part of our job, as reporters, to demonstrate why we deserve a reader’s trust.

In writing about kids with mental health challenges, however, things get complicated.

“It does require (a little) more work and definitely more research into Mastodon, and you have to consider policies for your instance members,” continues O’Connell. “For example, we welcome our journalists to move off the instance when they leave (or for any reason). We ask our team to always use ALT text. But, in my experience, putting the work in is worth it. We've reached new audiences who may never have heard of us before, and the engagement here is comparable.”

New research:
"Sex robots may present an opportunity for a clinical management of individuals with paraphilic interests whose realisation would result in infliction of harm and/or legal consequences." buff.ly/3VOpml2

As we attempted to call out anti-LGBTQ legislation, @facebook moderation decided to block our post, without reason or explanation or the opportunity for an appeal. This is just the latest in a wave of censorship directed at prevention and human rights activists.

RT @AshleyLatke
Politically we need to

- push twitter/platforms to hire/train human mods
- demand human rights and transparency standards in moderation
- demand allies stop focusing on conservative advertiser boycotts to “stop toxic twitter” and listen to sex workers about stakeholder impact

Preventing abuse is nuanced and complex, and everyone has opportunity for learning and discussion. We have a forum where you can discuss prevention and child protection so you can learn more - or come up with brilliant new ideas: buff.ly/2K127Dk

Trojan horse Judicial Security Bill is Actually About Internet Censorship, House Votes Today

Hey everyone,

@demandprogress is urging members of the House to vote NO on the #NDAA today because of a Trojan horse "Judicial Security" bill that's really internet censorship for info about federal judges.

@koyu@koyu.space To be fair, it's not hard to be smarter than Musk.

Yeah ok. I’m done with this reality. Anyone got a nicer one I can join?

It is strange, yes. However, what snow did is show that the #fediverse currently has a weakness: #fediblock and other blocklists. They are run by the few and whether good intention or not they are "centralized." The concept of a democratically connected group of instances seek to add the decentralization back into to decentralized #socialmedia. This is the reason for the #twittermigration after all.

It’s strange to see so many folks on the #Fediblock side siding with the #Nazi snow when everybody outside of #Fediblock knew full well that he was a #Nazi and most of us never liked him
