我能够预见到看完自述之后很多人依然不理解，甚至感到不快或抵触，但是我觉得让从业者自己的声音出现在讨论之中是最起码的第一步。

尤其是当参与讨论的人们以“帮助者”定位自己的时候（先不讨论这个定位是否傲慢），不带预设地倾听、了解当事人真实的需求和感受，区分自身和当事人的情绪，认识到人们作为个体的有限性造成的（双方）认知差异，一起探索并修正行动计划，也能够更加真正有效地帮助别人。

The lesson we should draw from this is that Kariko and Weissman succeeded *in spite* of the structure of modern academic research. She was demoted at Penn State due to a lack of NIH funding, and relegated to adjunct status for years. We should wonder what excellent, transformative ideas are being back burnered because they're too hard to get funded, hired or tenured with.

Update: I was informed by an ornithologist colleague that they do this to flush their insect prey.

In any case, he approached me with little concern, allowing me to take dozens of pictures. Unfortunately, few were as sharp as one would like, as my autofocus insisted on zeroing in on the warbler's tail, combined with a dark environment.

Bobtail squid... are they squid?

Depends who you ask. Bobtails are spectacular, cute as hell, often brightly colored, & mostly active at night.

On the cephalopod family tree, they're on a branch with the bottletails and cuttlefish (but they're *not* cuttlefish, just group with them).

Oh, and they're extremely cute.
