People are tired.

This week marks my one-year anniversary of leaving my full-time tech job to become the Primary Parent. I also started volunteering for a couple of boards and took steps to work on my health and get lots of sleep.

But even as I recover from 15 years of startup burnout, all I can see around me are oodles of very tired people. I see it on boards, at schools, on the street. Burning out just to make ends meet.

Bodhicitta is translated in various ways: “the mind of enlightenment”, “the spirit of enlightenment”, or (my favourite) “the awakened heart/heart of awakening." But more often that not, it's a #Buddhist term that is usually left untranslated. Bodhicitta is, in short, the heart-mind of the Buddhas, the mind that tends towards awakening. In non-Buddhas, it's a mind that is determined to awaken for the sole purpose of benefiting (other) sentient beings. Unconditional love and boundless compassion.

Astronaut Andreas Mogensen has been taking spectacular images of a rare atmospheric phenomenon called "red sprites." The existence of these Transient Luminous Events was hotly debated by scientists for decades, but the overwhelming evidence has piled up. These things are real. They appear above thunderclouds, about 40-80 km above the surface of the Earth, and can measure dozens of kilometers across. They're not easily seen from Earth, but space gives the perfect view.
