If we are going to eat meat, should we open pet stores for Butchers I get. Supermarkets I get. Fresh food is not legal where I am if it contains animal. Though I think I can eat worms or insects and they can make good garden pets. Next question. How am I gonna kill a bunny. So cute … so yummy … 😥🫢🫠

The 2nd (and by far biggest) wave of new #Mastodon users fades away... which isn't a bad thing at all. It gives all the admins some time to relax and to take care of their servers.

And it helps all of us to engage with interesting new accounts to make sure that they'll stay here. The amount of amazing new users, scientists, journalists, creators... this was such an incredible quality-content boost for Mastodon and the #fediverse

Thank you for being part of this. You rock 🤘

It was framed in some concern trolling about governments being untrustworthy ("Can you think of any ways to [engage in capitalism] that wouldn't rely on centralized authority or blockchain / cryptocurrency technology?")

No, bro, I can't figure out how to engage in capitalism without relying on capitalists. That's how the whole system works. It perpetuates itself.

We have to build systems that can exist when capitalism fails, and that means we're going to have to envision new ways of performing commerce.

If we can't find a way to do that that doesn't also boil the planet, then web based commerce has to die.

Random reminder that there’s no requirement that you be great at anything. Whatever you choose to do, it has value no matter what level of skill or ability you have. You’re not required to even WANT to be great at things!

It can be a lot of fun to do something badly. There’s a ton of utility in being “just ok” at things. Your contribution is worthwhile, and the people that try to tell you otherwise are assholes.

Visited #Portishead #Quaker meeting house today (a different local meeting house elsewhere in Quakers in Britain's #Bristol area meeting than where I normally go).

7 of us shared the hour of silence, in a place where Friends have gathered since 1670: heritage.quaker.org.uk/files/P (PDF link).

Consistently impressed by design decisions by Mastodon devs. Sure, there’s some usability rough edges compared to the bird site. But on balance the reasons for the general vibe here are clearly intentional decisions, not an accident. 🙏🏻

There was once a dream of a decentralised web.

As recently as a decade ago we had a still very active blogosphere, connected via blogrolls and RSS. Specialised web forums were still mainstream and messenger apps could largely interoperate.

Centralised social media slowly ate that dream. It had plenty of positives, but it pulled more and more people away from the open web and into corporate walled gardens.

Some people kept the dream of decentralisation alive. And now you are here.

If you feel you've been too far right or too siloed on the left to know what to do with your impulse toward the #CommonGood and would like to fix that, AND wish to change your work scene to a livelihood, consider the #coop #cooperative movement. It's a slow burn but in a useful/resilient direction in these threatening and fractured times. Jus' sayin'.

And/or the #ecovillage people could always use someone to pull weeds.

We're all a bunch of anarchists, I don't make the rules (we all do)

The fediverse is the promise of a liberated media that the Videofreex and The Raindance Corporation foresaw in the 60s and 70s, that the Culture Jammers demanded in the 80s and 90s.

This is mutual aid, this is anticapitalism, this is collaborative ideation.

We are living revolutionary values, right here, right now, on a silly little social media network.

And I will fight to my last breathe any God Damn corporation that tries to Monetize that.

This is the future, and you're a part of it now. Be a good steward of the future.

_In this era of Food Insecurity, it's almost criminal that 13% of good fresh food is wasted!_

This farmer says he reluctantly throws away enough cauliflower to feed a province | CBC Radio

An estimated 13 per cent of fruits and vegetables grown in Canada go unharvested or are discarded, according to a federal government report. Many farmers say they can't afford to harvest, box and transport wasted produce to food-insecure Canadians for free.
