The strange life of Tarrare, the insatiable glutton https://www.historydefined.net/life-of-tarrare/

Mountain View Buddhist Temple surveyed members on what they found most appealing about MVBT. The results are a peek into the life of Jodo Shinshu temples in America and why they endure over generations. They support the frequent observation that Shin Buddhism is more oriented toward communal than individual practice. Here's the resulting word association graphic

I am absolutely LOVING being able to finally see the posts from my friends!

Instead of you know, fighting the algorithm, the ads, the BS.

I love this space. Thank you for being here with me. #NewHere

Wow, just... Man that was a rather intense read. If you decide to give it a read as well, grab a comfy spot where you can take your time and appreciate what she really relates here.

Enjoy :)

As a Black woman living in Maine, a big part of my social media use is connecting with Black folks. I mean, have you seen the demographics of this state? I started my blog in 08, as a way to deal with the Isolation. I'm originally from Chicago. Anyway I'm looking for #BlackMastodon.

I'm over on the blue bird, same name.

Where are ya'll at? Holla.

TIL🧵2/3: Many have said it, I'm going to say it, too: I miss Quote Tweets. I appreciate the thoughtful justification for not implementing them, but also disagree. My ideal would be

a quote tweet that points up 😍☝️
rather than Twitter's pointing down 🤬👇

because I think sometimes it's really important to contextualize or emphasize why you're boosting someone's post.

I’m still trying to get over the fact that caterpillars digest themselves with tissue-dissolving enzymes, essentially turning themselves into #soup and then somehow… eyes, wings & antennae emerge from that soup in the shape of a #butterfly.

🍃🐛 —> 🍜 —> 🦋 —> 🤯

…and like, is the caterpillar considered to be “alive” through this entire process? Because if so, that’s some serious business.

A few of my observations since joining #Mastodon:
• people here are KIND and as awkward as I am 🖤
• not inundated w/ influencers or self-promos 24/7
(which means less sycophantic, mob behaviors)
• whole lotta intelligent people on here—wowza!
So many academics. I love it.
• NO ADS = GODSEND
• no pressure to log on & interact for fear of
Mr. Algorithm suppressing my voice. So many
platforms punish you for not logging in every day
& creating content for content’s sake

Soups and stews should stop fighting each other and accept that they're both delicious swamps.

Drink more water. The benefits are endless.

my favourite line from #TheTwoPopes:

Believe in the mercy you preach

#preach #mercy

I just had the most delightful thought that can occur to a gardener *I can go to the garden centre and look at plants when it’s raining*. That’s the best part of gardening really - no effort, no risk, no angst about placement, just pure commitment-free delusional dreaming of creating the perfect garden 😁

@JesseSkinner l’ll never go back. I don’t care about popularly at all. I care that I joy-scroll here. I care that my timeline is filled with positivity, beauty, and interesting people. I care about the small handful of amazing new friends I’ve found here, and the few hundred new acquaintances who let me peep into their fascinating lives. I care about not being harvested for data, I care about not being a commodity, I care about the astonishing inclusivity of this place ❤️
